It all began in 1986….
when I became a special educator. I started working with children having special needs. I realized that they have many hidden potentials which will take them to a new height.
I was observing them, and giving them various materials to explore like Canvas, wool and needles, a lot of paints and brushes, papers, clay, beads etc. To work with these materials, they needed basic skills like beading, threading, painting, Moulding, tying etc.
I observed that every child had his own interest in different activities. I chose to focus on the simple skill of that activity and turn it into making of a useful beautiful article.

All this experience of 33 years inspired me to start ‘Govind and Vatsala Rege Handicraft Center a rehabilitation project where people with abilities and disabilities work together to empower themselves through art and craft, by Awakening Charitable Trust in April 2018’ with a mission statement: “Unleashing the potential within the persons with special needs.”
Now Craft Sutra connects artisans from all over the world working independently from their homes in India and abroad.
We creatively use their skills and make useful beautiful articles which gives them a sustainable livelihood.
Come, join us in this beautiful journey…
